Panasonic EW3153W Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor with Wireless Display

Rating: ★★★★½

The Panasonic EW3153W Upper Arm Cuffless Blood Pressure Monitor with Wireless Display is great for those who want an accurate and reliable monitor but don’t want to fuss with a wrap-around upper arm cuff.  Panasonic has another model similar to this one.   However, what makes this one special is that it has a wireless unit and display that records and controls the monitor.  This makes it easy to use and easy to take just the wireless unit to your doctor to show your previous blood pressure measurements.  It also has a two user mode, records up to 90 readings per user, and has a color coded system for normal, prehypertension, and hypertension levels.  Lots of promise here!

Where To Buy?

I highly recommend Amazon.com (check current discounted price) for a couple reasons.  First, you can save over $60.  Secondly, you can have it shipped to you for free.  Lastly, it’s difficult to find quality blood pressure monitors like these in your local stores and pharmacy’s.

How Many Readings Does It Hold?

It holds a lot.  It has a two-user mode and can record up to 90 readings each.  That’s a combined 180 readings.  I have a hard time finding blood pressure monitors that record over 90 readings all together.  This is very useful in order to understand and analyze your blood pressure trends.

Can You Upload Your Data?

No.  However, the wireless unit that it comes with is a huge selling point.  Why?  Well, it’s a good idea to share your blood pressure history with your doctor.  With other blood pressure monitors, you’d have to take your entire unit.  With this one, all you have to take is the wireless unit that has all the data stored on it.

Cuff Size And Inflation

The cuff side can arms with a circumference of 7.75” to 13.25”.  Because the cuff on this unit doesn’t get larger or expand because of its hard encasing, you’d want to measure your arm in case its larger than average.  The monitor does automatically inflate itself to a proper inflation level with one touch of a button, which is important for getting accurate measurements.

Is It Accurate And Consistent?

Yep!  All Panasonic monitors use the oscillometric method, which uses your pulse to determine your blood pressure and eliminates other noise factors that can contribute to an inaccurate reading.  It also has an arm movement detector that’ll alert you in case your arm is moving too much, which can also lead to an inaccurate reading.  Many of its users are happy with its accuracy and consistency.

Also, because this isn’t a wrap around cuff, it allows you to stabilize the monitor and your elbow on the table, which cuts down on arm movement during the reading.

User Reviews

On Amazon.com, there are over 20 reviews with an average rating of 4.4/5 stars.  Many people have bought this specific unit because it doesn’t involve a wrap-around cuff and the wireless unit is a nice bonus feature.  You should read some of those reviews by clicking here.

Here are some rewritten pros and cons from those reviews:

Pros

“What I like most about this monitor is that it doesn’t error out like other monitors that I use.  It’s fast, accurate, and convenient because it doesn’t take a ton of my time.”

“I bought this for the elbow support while taking a measurement, and it’s made all the difference in accuracy.”

“I like that the batteries last a really long time so I don’t have to fuss with an a/c adapter.”

Cons

“It’s kind of big, almost the size of small motorcycle helmet, definitely can’t travel with it.”

“Definitely a monitor you want to keep at home because of how big it is, but the detachable wireless unit is a nice plus.”

Conclusion

This monitor is a big blood pressure monitor, but the upsides that you get are clearly worth the investment.  It completely allows you to get accurate readings by reducing arm movement, auto-inflation, and detecting irregular heartbeats.  Many have said its worth paying a little extra.  I highly recommend the Panasonic EW3153W Upper Arm Cuffless Blood Pressure Monitor with Wireless Display for those who want a comfortable experience.
