Rating: ★★★★½

The Omron 5 Series Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor with Wide-Range Cuff (BP742N) is great for those who want a very basic and affordable blood pressure monitor that’s fast, convenient, and accurate. While it doesn’t come with a ton of extra features, it has all the important one such as a one-button start operation, records 60 readings, averages your past 3 readings over 10 minutes, and tells you whether your blood pressure is too high or not. For this monitor, it comes with a standard size cuff for arms within the 9” to 13” size. However, if you need the bigger cuff (13” to 17”), you can buy it separately for under 10 bucks.

Where To Buy?

I highly recommend buying it from Amazon.com (check discounted price), they have it for a little over 30% off and you can have it shipped to you for free. It’s hard to find these in your local retail stores and pharmacies, and Amazon has great customer service, so order there. Also, if you need the larger cuff, they make it easy to add it to your cart along with the Omron BP742.

Records 60 Readings, Has Two User Mode

The whole point of being able to record your blood pressure at home is to get a better understand of how your blood pressure is doing over time, which makes the 60 readings very necessary. Also, if you have a spouse or someone you’d like to share the monitor with, you can split the readings among two different users so that your data stays separate

Advanced Averaging, Hypertension Indicator

Average is also another necessary feature, since your blood pressure may jump or drop within a 10 minute span. With this monitor, it always displays what your average reading is over the past 3 measurements in the past 10 minutes.
Hypertension is another word for high blood pressure. Many monitors just display your result but never tell you whether it was too high or not. So, the hypertension indicator is a nice plus.
